The SURVIVE Project

Suicide prevention and intervention: cohort study and nested randomized controlled trials of secondary prevention programs for suicide attempts

The SURVIVE study implies:

COHORT STUDY

Data from 2,000 people who have made a suicide attempt will be collected. A 12-month follow-up will be carried out to assess the incidence of new attempts and to identify risk factors.

RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIALS

Three nested RCTs will be conducted to evaluate the efficacy of different secondary prevention programs that will be added to the usual treatment.

Telephone-based management program

Will be coordinated by Hospital Universitario Parc Taulí (Dr. Annabel Cebrià and team). The program consists of a series of semi-structured telephone interviews that aim to determine the actual risk of suicide and to promote healthy behaviors.

iFightDepression-Survive program

Developed by the European Alliance Against Depression and the Hospital del Mar (Dr. Víctor Pérez and team). It’s an online self- management tool based on skills training. It is tailored for adults with depressive symptoms and suicidal behavior.

Self-Awareness of Mental Health (SAM)

Is a face-to-face program designed for teenagers between 12 and 18 years old. The program is coordinated by the University of Oviedo (Dr. Julio Bobes and team). The SAM includes educational content that covers information about depression, risk and protective factors and skills training for coping with stress and suicidal behavior.

NATIONAL PLATFORM FOR SUICIDE STUDY AND PREVENTION

Coordinated by Alejandro de la Torre and team (UCM). The aim of this platform is to provide evidence-based information to the lay public and to promote a network that links stakeholders and groups of interest.
